Corn silage is juicy and delicious, aromatic, rich in nutrients, high in digestibility, and the silage method is simple and easy, and the cost is low. As long as the raw materials of silage are transported timely in a short time, the appropriate moisture is grasped, quickly crush and seal them well, you can get the best silage.
1. Timely harvesting: the best time for harvesting corn stalks used for silage is 7-10 days before the corn matures. At this time, the harvest will not affect the yield of corn, but also improve the nutritional value of corn stalks. Too late harvesting will make the silage difficult to compact, poor fermentation quality, short shelf life, and more importantly, poor digestibility of various nutrients.
2. Collecting: we must carefully clean the silo and remove the residues in the silo; clean the area around the silo, install the hay machine and prepare the compaction tool; the orientation of the silo should not face to west and south.
Cut length of silage corn stalk is generally into 33 mm. If it is too short or too thin, it will lead to a reduction in the effective fiber that stimulates the cow's chewing, and rumen toxicosis will occur.
Farmers should determine the size of the silage at a speed of at least 15-20 cm per day. When filling silage, it should be fast and compact (each 15-20 cm thick, use a compaction tool once). The size of the better cellar is relatively small and has a fast filling speed, fast fermentation, small reclaiming area, easy management, and little dry matter loss.
3. Management after opening the cellar. Remove enough silage every day; keep the ground clean, reduce air retention and prevent secondary fermentation; after taking the silage, it should be sealed as soon as possible to reduce air retention and prevent aerobic deterioration.
