The Ministry of Agriculture carried out a risk assessment of three types of veterinary medicines, including olaquindox, aminophenylarsinic acid, and roxarsone. The raw materials and various preparations of these three kinds of veterinary medicines may cause harm or potential risks to the breeding industry and human health. Ethanol, aminophenylarsinic acid, and roxarsone are used in food animals. The above drugs will be discontinued for use in food and animals from May 1, 2019, and the relevant veterinary product approval number will be cancelled on May 1, 2018. After the announcement is officially released, the application for the approval number of the above three drug products will be stopped, and products manufactured before May 1, 2018 can be used in circulation before April 30, 2019.

In order to ensure the safety of animal-derived food and public health, according to the relevant requirements of the National Action Plan for Containing Animal-derived Bacterial Resistance (2017-2020), the Ministry of Agriculture organized olaquindox, aminophenylarsinic acid, loxarsone, etc.3 The risk assessment of various veterinary drugs was carried out, and it was considered that the above three veterinary drugs may cause harm or potential risks to the breeding industry and human health, forming the "Announcement on the Stopping of Olaquindox, Arsanilic Acid, Roxarsone for Food Animals" ( Consultation Draft) (Annex). In order to ensure the quality and safety of animal products and public health safety, our organization organized a risk assessment of three kinds of veterinary drugs including olaquindox, aminophenylarsinic acid, and roxarsone. The evaluation believes that the raw materials and various preparations of the three veterinary drugs may cause harm or potential risks to the breeding industry and human health. According to Article 69 of the Regulations on the Administration of Veterinary Drugs, our Ministry decided to stop the use of olaquindox, aminophenylarsinic acid, and roxarsone for food animals, and cancel the approval number of the relevant veterinary drug products. The relevant matters are announced as follows.
1. As of the date of this announcement, the application for approval number of veterinary drug products for three kinds of API and various preparations including olaquindox, aminophenylarsinic acid, and roxarsone will be stopped.
Second, from May 1, 2018, the production of olaquindox, aminophenylarsinic acid, roxarsone and other three kinds of raw materials and various preparations will be stopped, and the approval number of the veterinary drug product of the relevant company will be cancelled at the same time. Products manufactured before May 1, 2018 can be used in circulation before April 30, 2019.
3. From May 1, 2019, stop the use of three kinds of APIs and various preparations of olaquindox, aminophenylarsinic acid, roxarsone for food and animals.
